Year 1 - Grade 4

Final Reflections

Using student data to create a unit that would support a skill that the students needed support in. Involving the students in the creative process helped the students take ownership of their own learning. The students enjoyed the process of creating a soundtrack in their classroom and watching themselves on TV. -?? Wonderful support for helping me adjust to having a teaching artist in the general music classroom. -Christine Wyatt, music teacher

Providing scenes that could only be interpreted one way. The students needed more activities in connecting the vocabulary they needed to describe the scenes in the general music and regular classroom. -?? Issues with panning with teaching artist. We need more time with planning-did not get it. Christine Wyatt, music teacher

How can teachers and teaching artist help the students transfer musical inference skills to reading inference skills? How can we do a better job of measuring the growth of this process? -?? Measuring student learning outside of test scores? -Dedria Jackson, 4th grade teacher

Have the students write and create an action scene in which they have to create appropriate music for it from scratch. -?? When I realized that I didn't need to make the classes so easy for fear of their not getting it. They enjoyed the challenge! It's okay to make it hard. -Christine Wyatt, music teacher Now knowing what I know- I will meet and collaborate more to make sure we're on the same page. -Dedria Jackson, 4th grade teacher
